LG Chem introduced, on Tuesday, an online mentorship program to teach elementary and middle school students about environmental issues along with scientific lectures and solutions. The program “LIKE GREEN” aims to increase environmental sustainability awareness as part of LG Chem’s corporate social responsibility program (CSR).

The “G.R.E.E.N.” acronym stands for global warming, recycling, energy, ecosystems, and next-generation technology.

LG Chem would enroll 100 elementary and middle school students for its CSR scholarship program to raise interest in environmental issues. The online educational program would push through with the cooperation of non-profit organizations like Korea Food for the Hungry International.

Interested applicants must submit the following requirements, including a 30-second self-introduction video and applications showing interest in environmental and science issues. LG Chem would receive applications until December 21 on its webpage at likegreen.kr, before starting the selection process.

LIKE GREEN Mentorship Program

The Like Green mentorship program would educate the selected young students from January to March concerning five topics. The participants would join group activities and learn about the environment under the GREEN theme. University or college students with backgrounds in environment and science would serve as mentors for the participants.

The program includes five topics or courses where students learn specific ways of saving or sustaining the environment. Students would learn how to turn carbon dioxide into a reusable resource for the prevention of global warming. Participants would also learn recycling in a fun way by creating works of art.

Another course would explain how electricity becomes generated through renewable energy and learn about the effects of a new virus on the ecosystem. Next-generation technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and other new materials would comprise the last course.

The LIKE GREEN program would host an online event to showcase and share the students’ achievements with their families and friends.

Park Joon-sung, LG Chem external cooperation officer, stated that the program aims to nurture young people who care about the environment. Park also said that it would reduce the education gap brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
