LG Display signed a three-year partnership deal with Walt Disney's StudioLAB to provide ultra-high-definition organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV panels.

LG Display announced on Wednesday that it signed a three-year partnership deal with Walt Disney Co.‘s StudioLAB to provide ultra-high-definition organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV panels.

Under the deal, the South Korean display maker would supply its transparent, ultra-HD OLED displays to StudioLAB, a Walt Disney Studios subsidiary, focuses on researching advanced filmmaking and editing technologies. Manufactured by LG Display, Walt Disney Studio would use the advanced panels for its in-house production operations.

However, LG Group affiliate did not disclose the financial details of the deal.

LG said that the two companies would strive to provide various projects that would equip Walt Disney Studios with “new production tools and provide consumers with immersive experiences tied to the studios’ film releases.”

Advanced OLED Panels for Film Production

LG Display would first provide its OLED displays to Walt Disney Studios, which owns studios such as Pixar, Twentieth Century, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, and Blue Sky Studios. These production companies use StudioLAB for interstudio collaborations.

“This new innovation partnership reiterates our commitment to providing the best display capabilities to Disney’s amazing filmmakers and technologists and our dedication to offering an ideal viewing experience of their beloved characters and worlds.”

-Oh Chang-ho, LG Display’s Head and Executive Vice President of TV business unit

In the past, LG Display provided Marvel Studios with its 88-inch 8K LG Signature OLED TVs used for film editing. Marvel also used the displays to produce high-quality color expressions for post-production processes.

Marvel produced movies such as the “Avengers” series and other films based on the Marvel Comics.

“This collaboration opens a whole new dimension of future possibilities and enables us to accelerate the innovation we need to quickly develop and test new types of experiences, now more than ever.”

-Matthew Deuel, StudioLAB’s Director of Innovation Partnerships

LG Display and Walt Disney Studios also plan to develop various collaborative projects combining the OLED’s technology and Disney content. This would include promotion campaigns creating an “experience zone” showcasing LG Display’s transparent OLEDs at Disney facilities.
