South Korea’s top messaging operator Kakao Corp. introduced on Wednesday its new corporate messenger service Kakao Work. The new messenger service supports the digital transformation of the work environment to improve work efficiency.
Kakao Enterprise developed the new service with the existing interface of Kakao Talk together with AI-based cloud technology. The corporate messenger service includes many workplace-related features improving efficiency and managing activities.
For instance, Kakao Work could permit employees to stop receiving messages after office hours. A company could create an employee database through the platform which allows messaging without exchanging phone numbers. The new service could also group chat members who have not received or read a message.
Since May, Kakao Enterprise employees started testing the Kakao Work Messenger. The service functions smoothly on mobile devices as well as desktop computers and laptops. It could access a work request message and add it to a scheduled list.
Baek Sang-yeop, CEO of Kakao Enterprise, stated that Kakao Works’ new emoji function works is a popular feature among Kakao Enterprise employees in chatrooms, equivalent to the “like” button on Facebook or Instagram.
Digitization of Work
Kakao aims to become a top platform where companies could expand together the services offered by Kakao Work.
The platform would also provide tools for the digitization of work, as companies shifted to work from home setups due to the Covid-19 outbreak. It could display a time clock feature which could track employees’ work hours and day-offs. Kakao Work also offers video conferencing for up to 30 people that would later expand to 200 people.
Kakao Enterprise created the business messenger suitable for popular third-party solutions, which include Github and Jira. The company provided AI support assistant named Kasper for online searches within the messenger, which could answer simple questions.
Kakao Work E3 System, the company’s security solution system, would encrypt user data on the platform through cloud servers. Kakao Enterprise focuses on helping companies that do not have the means to put up their internal communication system. The company aims to commercialize corporate messenger in various fields.
The company offers free trials of Kakao Work starting Wednesday, which would later on become subscription-based on November 25.
