LG Electronics revealed on Monday its first state-of-the-art device under the Explorer Project, LG WING, in an online event live-streamed globally. The LG WING represents the Explorer’s goal to discover practical and functional concepts that would further expand the mobile industry.
LG launched the smartphone at an online event live-streamed worldwide from Seoul. LG’s unpacking event for its second flagship smartphone lasted for about 30 minutes through various social media outlets.
The LG WING offers multiple features uniquely different from other smartphones in the market. The smartphone includes a Basic Mode and a Swivel Mode. The Swivel Mode allows the phone to rotate 90 degrees clockwise that reveals a 3.9-inch second screen underneath. The two screens could display a single application program or two different applications, one on each display.
Next-Generation of Usability
The LG WING also includes a 6.8 inch P-OLED Full Vision display main screen. The second screen expands the total viewing display and also serves as a grip when in landscape mode. The Grip-Lock allows the second screen to display time, date, map directions, which disregards unintentional touches.
LG applied a 32MP Pop-Up Camera that comes out from the body of the device when needed. LG WING also features three rear cameras – a 12MP Ultra Wide Big Pixel, 13MP Wide, and a 64MP Ultra High-Resolution OIS Wide.
The smartphone also comes with a simultaneous dual recording mode from the pop-up camera and one of the rear cameras. The recorded audio could get saved in a single or two separate files. The video or photo could run on the main screen while the second screen could edit the palette.
LG implemented the gimbal camera feature enabling users to take images or videos by using controls on the second screen.
The LG WING weighs only about 260 grams despite its many features which enhance its durability and reliability. The hinge module with a hydraulic damper reduces stress and makes the swivel soft without damaging the interface. A thermoplastic polyoxymethylene pad at the back of the main screen prevents scratches on the second screen.
It’s finally here. We present to you the LG WING – our very first step of the Explorer Project.
