Samsung Electronics, the world’s biggest memory chip producer, presented its latest Solid State Drive (SSD) product, the 870 QVO SATA SSD, highlighting a leading capacity of up to 8 terabytes (TB) on Tuesday. The new SSD offers an uncompromising combination of storage capacity, reliability, and speed for typical and expert PC users.

The company stated that its second-generation quad-level cell (QLC) flash drive sets a new standard for high-capacity storage for consumers. The SSD would go on sale in 40 countries, initially in the United States and South Korea.

HDD-like Capacity with SSD Properties

Mike Mang, Samsung’s vice president for memory brand product business team, stated that the company released its second-generation 870 QVO SSD following the launch of Samsung’s first QLC drive, 860 QVO, in 2018. The 870 QVO SSD provides optimal performance and value, as well as double capacity storage of 8TB. The new 870 QVO would benefit consumers with its HDD-like capacity and its SSD properties at the same time.

The 870 QVO features an Intelligent TurboWrite technology, which allows it to sustain top performance levels using a large variable SLC buffer. It offers a superior reading speed of up to 560 MB/s and a writing speed of up to 530 MB/s. Compared to the 860 QVO, the 870 QVO improved its random read speed by 13%. This makes it suitable for web browsing, multitasking, and gaming. It provides a 98K input/output operations per second.

The improved Data Migration and Magician 6 software delivers a variety of enhanced and additional features, allowing users to manage and upgrade their SSDs with no difficulty. The 870 QVO displays an excellent endurance rating of up to 2,880 terabytes written (TBW) or a three-year limited warranty.

It features four models that vary based on its 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB storage capacities. The 8TB model costs $899 each.

The different models are available starting on June 30, 2020.
