Microsoft and Google pronounced the termination of support for Flash following suit the announcement of Adobe that “it will stop updating and distributing the Flash Player at the end of 2020.” Up until now, users criticize Flash for its security vulnerabilities that might expose them to security risks. Due to this decision, the users will no longer be able to use Flash on websites for both mobile and PC.
However, Flash remains a common platform for many e-Learning content, advertisements, and games. There is no substitute for Flash features that enables users for object-moving animations or two-way interactions. An alternative once nominated was HTML 5, but due to its high cost in development and lack of experts, the adaption of the technology remains a problem.
XELF, a content-creating tool platform, just like Flash, allows two way-interactions and object-moving animations. XELF also allows anyone to design and produce content without coding as an HTML5-based cloud service. As XELF concluded its one year Beta service on November 7, 2019, the platform officially launched. It will maintain its free use policy wherein creators can utilize all content-creating tools; however, it introduced additional benefits for paying consumers. It will also add the enterprise license option where users can share their creation on LMS (Learning Management Systems) or websites.
Tae-Hwan Ahn of Globis Infotech, XELF’s CEO, explained, “XELF will continue to expand features that content creators need and an environment where they could input scripts.” He further added that “the HTML5-based content creation tool will eventually replace the next-generation Flash.”
