One out of three consumers who purchased mobile gift certificates in 2018 used them at convenience stores. Half of mobile gift cards at convenience stores were used by teenagers.

According to an analysis of the annual sales data from “giftishow,” a mobile gift certificate service, the brands that sold the most were convenience stores (GS25, CU, and 7-Eleven) which accounted for 32 percent of the total sales.

According to age groups, 48% of mobile gift card users in convenience stores were teenagers.

“Teenagers who are familiar with mobile and internet services are increasingly using mobile gift cards as a means of making mobile payments,”

Lee Jung-ho, director of KT Mhows.

Customers in their 20s and older had higher credit card use (64%) when purchasing mobile gift certificates, but the users of the certificates tend to be younger.

The teenagers often buy snacks such as banana and chocolate milk, along with gummy candy.
