LG Energy Solution has entered into an MoU with Bear Robotics, a robotics company based in the US, to exclusively provide cylindrical battery cells for the startup’s flagship robots. As part of the agreement, LG will supply 2170-type batteries to power Bear Robotics’ autonomous service robots, including models like the Servi Plus and Carti 100, beginning next year.
With the collaboration, LG Energy Solution plans to expand its strategy to diversify its battery portfolio and target new markets beyond electric vehicles (EVs). By supplying its advanced cylindrical batteries to Bear Robotics, the company aims to enhance its global technological competitiveness, particularly in the rapidly growing sector of autonomous robotics.
The partnership between LG Energy Solution and Bear Robotics is part of LG’s broader strategy to diversify its portfolio and expand into high-growth markets. The volume of batteries required for the robots will be smaller than electric vehicles (EVs) or energy storage systems (ESS). LG aims to strengthen its presence in this growing market, leveraging its battery safety and innovation expertise.
Bear Robotics, founded in 2017 by CEO John Ha, is known for autonomous service robots, including the Servi Plus and Carti 100. The company operates in over 20 countries and continues to redefine automation in both public and industrial spaces. With investments from major players like SoftBank and LG Electronics, Bear Robotics will be able to take charge of AI-powered robotics.
Safety is crucial in this partnership, especially as many of Bear Robotics’ machines operate in high-traffic public spaces. LG Energy Solution, known for its industry-leading battery technologies, will provide safe and reliable cylindrical batteries featuring advanced materials like high-quality NCMA cathodes and patented ceramic-coated separators. These safety enhancements are crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of service and logistics robots while protecting public well-being.
In addition to supplying batteries, LG Energy Solution and Bear Robotics will collaborate on new technological advancements to further enhance the capabilities of autonomous robots. This partnership is part of LG’s long-term vision to expand into areas beyond EVs, including robotics, urban air mobility, and space exploration. With a focus on innovation and product safety, LG plans to capitalize on opportunities in the global robotics market and other high-growth sectors.
In addition to its partnership with Bear Robotics, LG Energy Solution is expanding its business portfolio by targeting high-growth sectors such as urban air mobility, robotics, and vessels. The company aims to diversify its customer base beyond electric vehicles (EVs) by exploring new opportunities in industries like artificial intelligence (AI), battery backup devices, and renewable energy. Recently, LG signed a supply contract in the energy storage system (ESS) market.
