On November 27th, Alchera, a specialized video recognition artificial intelligence (AI) company led by CEO Hwang Young-kyu, was honored with the Presidential Commendation for Software Industry Development at the 24th Software Industry Day commemoration ceremony.
This event, organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and sponsored by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency and the Korea Software Industry Association, is a commemorative ceremony emphasizing the significance of the software industry. On this day, Alchera was recognized for its international contributions to the commercialization of video recognition AI technology.
Alchera’s CEO, Hwang Young-kyu, is a pioneer in the domestic development of video recognition artificial intelligence technology, leading the commercialization of face, body, and object tracking technology since 2006. Alchera utilizes AI in video recognition cameras, with a deployment exceeding 350 million units worldwide, contributing to the establishment of a secure society through AI.
Alchera has successfully expanded globally, starting with the United States and Australia, through its SaaS-based early wildfire detection service, FireScout. FireScout, launched in 2021, initially provided services in Sonoma County, California, and is currently supplied to numerous government agencies, disaster management organizations, and energy companies. The significant supply regions for Alchera, namely the western United States and southern Australia, are globally recognized as areas prone to large-scale wildfires due to hot and dry climates.
The importance of these regions is further emphasized as they lead in advanced wildfire detection and prevention. FireScout monitors an area of over 87,200 km² in real-time using more than 1,000 cameras, equivalent to approximately 144 times the size of Seoul. By utilizing AI 24/7, FireScout detects early signs of wildfires, provides support for swift initial responses, contributes to environmental protection, and enhances local community safety.
Alchera’s CEO, Hwang Young-kyu, stated, “FireScout, already globally recognized, will soon establish itself as the benchmark for technology in preventing wildfires and disasters.” He emphasized, “The potential of image recognition AI in its field is limitless. Alchera will focus on providing SaaS-based solutions and standardizing models to ensure the utilization of our technology and services across various sectors in our society. Additionally, we will support interoperability within the domestic software industry and strive to contribute to creating and expanding a global ecosystem as a leading AI company in South Korea.
Meanwhile, Alchera, headquartered in Pangyo Techno Valley, has shown remarkable business achievements in the domestic public and financial sectors. They introduced an identity verification infrastructure based on facial recognition, providing secure access control and highly accurate non-face-to-face authentication services. Alchera’s solutions were showcased in major domestic facilities, including the ‘Smart Government Office Integrated Management System’ in the nation’s top four government offices, the ‘Smart Pass System’ at Incheon International Airport, and the ‘Joint Facial Recognition System for Identification Cards’ project by the Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute.
