SK Telecom has adopted a metaverse market strategy in Southeast Asia by partnering with three prominent IT companies in the region. The South Korean telecommunications giant plans metaverse market expansion as it formalizes these collaborations through memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with CelcomDigi Berhad, Agate, and Cosmic Technologies.

CelcomDigi, a prominent telecommunications entity in Malaysia, Agate, a leading game developer and publisher based in Indonesia, and Cosmic Technologies, a provider of Internet of Things (IoT) platforms and devices in the Philippines, are expected to collaborate with SK Telecom in expanding the metaverse platform, ifland, in Southeast Asia.

The partnership, formalized through MOU, assists each company strategically to leverage their respective strengths in enhancing ifland’s capabilities and catering to the diverse needs of the Southeast Asian market.

SK Telecom envisions that these collaborative efforts will drive the accelerated growth of ifland’s regional user base. To achieve this, the company, under the MOUs, will focus on the global development of services, while its partners, CelcomDigi, Agate, and Cosmic Technologies, will concentrate on the creation of locally tailored content and the provision of support to local customers.

SK Telecom has actively pursued localization initiatives for ifland since July, conducting tests to adapt the platform for the Southeast Asian market. Presently, the company is in the process of developing services in Indonesian, Malaysian, and Hindi languages for the platform.

To address the diverse needs of the global metaverse market, SK Telecom is actively augmenting ifland with new features. These enhancements include language support for Indonesian, Malay, Hindi, and Spanish, ensuring linguistic inclusivity.

As a leading mobile carrier in South Korea, SK Telecom is aligning itself with information technology firms from Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. With the recently signed MOUs with CelcomDigi, Agate, and Cosmic Technologies, plans to synergize expertise and resources for advancing and refining the ifland metaverse platform in the Southeast Asian market.
