SK Telecom Co. announced that it would participate for the first time in E3 2021, the world’s largest game fair. The South Korean telecommunication company would join the gaming conference to strengthen its global console gaming market presence.
E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) is the largest North American video game exhibit, presenting the latest and upcoming gaming industry innovations. Entertainment Software Association (ESA), E3’s host, would hold the event virtually for four days to June 15.
According to ESA, over 50 international game developers and publishers would join in the online game fair. Some of the E3 participants include Japan’s Nintendo, France’s Ubisoft, and the US’s Xbox.
Showcasing Locally Developed Games
During E3 2021, SK Telecom would manage a digital booth and showcase new console games from South Korean gaming companies. Furthermore, SK Telecom’s lineup contains four games, including Anvil, Little Witch in the Woods, Neoverse, and Vapor World.
Action Square, a South Korean mobile game app developer, created Anvil, a multiplayer sci-fi action game. In Anvil, gamers could also play Vault Breaker characters and travel over various playing fields brimming with challenges.
Another domestic gaming content creator, the Busan-based Sunny Side Up, developed the pixel art-based role-playing Little Witch in the Woods. This game narrates the story of Ellie, an apprentice witch, enabling users to explore mystical settings and other witchcraft-related missions.
Meanwhile, the strategic game-specialized company, Tino Gamez, created Neoverse, an immersive multiverse game packed with thrilling challenges. The game also integrates various gameplays, including deck building, roguelike, and strategy.
Lastly, the local game developer Alive created Vapor World. It is an action-adventure game where players could enter and navigate a mental asylum.
Besides introducing console games from South Korean developers to audiences worldwide, SK Telecom would provide demo gameplays to E3 guests. Then, the telecom giant would apply the accumulated visitor feedback and response to improve the games’ qualities.
Enriching the Global Console Game Industry
SK Telecom expects its E3 participation to increase the locally developed console games’ international presence. Additionally, SK Telecom plans to release the new games on Xbox and 5GX Cloud Game increasingly throughout this year.
Separately, SK Telecom is the only Asian company to collaborate with Microsoft for the Xbox for 5GX Cloud Game service. SK Telecom and Microsoft previously developed the 5GX Cloud Game, a game-streaming platform where users could access Microsoft’s Xbox catalog.
“We are delighted to participate in E3 2021 with prominent game developers in Korea,” said Cho Jae-Yoo, VP and Head of SK Telecom’s Game Business. Cho also stated that SK Telecom plans to enhance the global gaming ecosystem further.
To this end, the company would utilize the Xbox and 5GX Cloud Game platforms further and continuously increase its efforts to establish more valuable global expansion opportunities for South Korean game developers.
