SK Telecom‘s president, Park Jung-ho, revealed an innovative plan for the post-COVID-19 pandemic situation on last week at Supex Hall, Euljiro headquarters. Park said that SK Telecom would improve its traditional principles and procedures and accelerate new ideas and innovations from ICT to the corporate setting.

Park made the announcements at an online town hall meeting with 20 company executives and other employees of SK ICT family through different online meeting platforms.

The company would set up satellite offices situated 10 to 20 minutes from the employee’s homes.

The project intends to build up the number of office sites within a less-than-20-minutes radius from an employee’s home. The company would use fifth-generation (5G) network technology as well as cloud services to stimulate and increase work efficiency.

SKT expects that an increase in employee satisfaction would result from a decrease in the commuting time of employees, which would eventually generate new ideas and suggestions from employees regardless of their departments.

Park reiterated that SKT would build a new evaluation tool model that corresponds to different businesses in today’s digital era. The company would part away with the conventional perspective of monthly sales and the number of subscribers to achieve success. He plans to convert all new businesses that the company would promote into cloud-based and AI-driven technology.

Building New Opportunities

Park said that new ICT products must be installed to other companies to build new opportunities. ICT companies should upgrade and act immediately to overcome the ongoing global crisis.

He mentioned that he would form a junior board service committee comprised of young employees between the ages of 20-30. There would be a consensus within the junior board before launching new services outside the company.

SK Telecom would increase its offices to a total of 10 in Songpa and Mapo, Seoul, within this year. Currently, the company has four operating locations, namely in Seodaemun in Seoul, Bundang in Seongnam, and Pangyo in Gyeonggi Province.

The company announced that it would boost its O2O marketing platform, which connects online and offline distribution networks, the release of contact control solution, differentiation of video commerce, and expansion of production of original content. The marketing platform would bring great opportunities in the post-COVID period.

Park stated that the company would cooperate with major local and foreign companies to expand its business from mobile telecommunications to ICT. SKT must stand firm on its own before it can take the lead in innovation.
