CJ ENM, one of Asia’s leading entertainment and media companies, teamed up with Samsung Electronics Co. to establish a globally recognized virtual production studio. According to the two companies, their collaboration aims to lead the future video content production.

Besides demonstrating dedication to accelerate the virtual production market’s growth, the CJ ENM-Samsung partnership would incorporate cutting-edge display technologies. In particular, they would leverage the 2021 version of Samsung’s ‘The Wall,’ a next-generation micro-LED display.

This July, Samsung unveiled 2021’s The Wall model, offering one of the world’s most dynamic and immersive display technologies. Besides housing a new Micro AI Processor, The Wall supports trouble-free installation and provides an expansive, 1,000-inch content canvas.

The partners would also supply The Wall to CJ ENM’s virtual studio, a section of its soon-to-open film and series content production complex. Moreover, CJ ENM would open the studio complex in South Korea’s Paju City this year.

Exploring Video Content Production Possibilities

The new project is also the world’s first-ever virtual production volume studio to apply The Wall’s extensive LED technologies. Thanks to this achievement, CJ ENM, and Samsung could now explore the endless possibilities in virtual video content production.

The two companies would also install the main display in an oval structure with a twenty-meter diameter and seven-meter height. As a result, this would create an endless background illusion, providing a high-quality platform for capturing content.

Furthermore, Samsung Electronics Visual Display Business President Han Jong-Hee shared that Samsung looks forward to its collaboration with CJ ENM. Aside from advancing the virtual production industry, their alliance delivers innovations and solutions, creating a next-gen content production environment.

Giving Creators a Canvas for Visual Expression

CJ ENM and Samsung’s virtual production studio would also employ interconnected cameras and LEDs to develop virtual backdrops in real-time. Additionally, the studio saves image-compositing times and reduces on-location shooting costs.

The Wall’s versatile display solutions also enable content creators to freely design settings, giving the optimum canvas for visual expression. In addition to delivering ultra-wide viewing angles, The Wall provides accurate colors, 8K-resolution picture quality, and optimized frame rates.

What’s more, The Wall offers convenient management by minimizing screen disruptions, offering easy-to-use adjustment solutions, and sporting contamination-resistant protective films. Both companies’ content production reimagining also satisfies today’s fast-moving entertainment sector.

Becoming a Next-Gen Content Powerhouse

“The strategic partnership with Samsung will allow CJ ENM to push forward the creation of a new powerhouse of the next-generation content,” said Kang Ho-Sung, CJ ENM’s CEO. Kang stated that the production studio would also enable CJ ENM to transform into a globally leading entertainment provider.

As part of this goal, CJ ENM recently announced that it would allocate 5 trillion won ($4.4 billion) to increase its original content production and improve over-the-top (OTT) streaming services. CJ ENM would also produce over 100 original works for TVing, its OTT service, by 2023.
