LG introduces dual-language AI model ‘Exaone’

LG AI Research, the AI division of LG Group has unveiled its biggest artificial intelligence project Exaone. This AI language model mimics humans as it learns, thinks and takes actions on its own through large-scale data processing. Also, it boasts more parameters than its market counterparts. The multi-purpose AI model can be employed in various fields to get certain tasks done.

Exaone refers to “expert AI for everyone.” The new AI model by LG Group can tune in with around 300 billion variables. It implies that the AI model can better process the data through efficiency and advanced language skills made available to the system.

The focus of global tech giants has been developing massive AI language systems. Since most human knowledge is maintained and shared through languages, the AI language has the utmost importance in the high-tech ecosystem.

According to a report by the LG center, the company has trained the system to process data and develop, absorb and elucidate actionable insights. The purpose is to mimic humans and have similar language performance.

Presently, the AI models identify an image and analyze it based on text data. However the new model receives and creates a new image based on the analyzed data.

Apart from accurate AI structure in the system, Exaone stands out among the competitors as the model can recognize, understand, process, and operate both in Korean and English. Unlike its counterparts, such as US or Korean AI models, which typically function in a single language, Exaone has an advantage of a dual language system. It targets a broader set of users, resulting in a rise in demand for the solution.

While talking about the use case of the AI model, the company said that it aims to take Exaone to the top AI model list globally. With Exaone growing to become the most acceptable AI expert, the project is expected to offer solutions to almost all sectors, including education, finance, manufacturing and research.

Last year, the LG center was launched to undertake various advanced tech research and development projects by LG and LG affiliates. The Korean tech giant aims to develop the center with a long-term plan having three phases. It primarily plans to advance the system in collaboration with LG affiliates. Further, the company wants to create a global AI alliance, and in the third phase, it plans to build an ecosystem for the larger AI application and adoption.

While speaking to the media, the chief of LG’s AI research hub said, “Ultimately, we aim to play a role in building a global AI alliance where a slew of schools, experts and companies around the world are teaming up to solve difficult challenges across industries.”

Exaone has begun its internal adoption as LG’s subdivisions such as LG Electronics, LG Uplus, LG CNS and LG Chem have now integrated the AI model in their systems. The model is being leveraged for various use cases. It includes complex chemical research papers analysis, using fluent chatbots, etc.
