Kia Corporation shared the first official look at its all-new Sportage, an SUV that firmly incorporates Kia’s highly acclaimed ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy. Besides paying tribute to its heritage, the new Sportage amplifies existing design conventions and employs the latest innovations.
“With the all-new Sportage, we didn’t simply want to take one step forward but instead move on to a different level in the SUV class,” said Karim Habib, Head and Senior VP of Kia’s Global Design Center. Habib also stated that the Sportage reinvention enabled the design teams to explore new areas and optimize the company’s recent moves.
Earlier in January, Kia unveiled a new logo and slogan as part of its brand relaunch. Kia also recently introduced the EV6, its first-ever dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) based on the E-GMP. Moreover, these landmarks allowed Kia’s designers to inspire customers using innovative and modern SUV design.
Opposites United
Previously in March, Kia revealed Opposites United, a new design philosophy containing five pillars. The pillars include Bold for Nature, Joy for Reason, Power to Progress, Technology for Life, and Tension for Serenity. Furthermore, the ‘Bold for Nature’ pillar highly influenced Sportage’s design formation, promoting a modern but organic design identity.
Setting New Design Benchmarks
Kia furnished the latest Sportage’s front features with a black, detail-oriented grille stretching, providing a thought-provoking visual focal point. The company also applied simple surface designs to balance out Sportage’s complex front design.
The new Sportage’s side profile showcased its sports utility identity through dynamic architecture. In particular, Kia placed lines across Sportage’s refined body surface, harmoniously blending different volumes.
Sportage delivers a distinct road presence from the rear with its broad shoulders, embodying Kia’s stability and strength-related values. Kia also gave the vehicle a graphic lower bumper casing that connects all design elements, further incorporating its Opposites United philosophy.
Meanwhile, Kia equipped the all-new Sportage’s interior with innovative and intelligent technologies, giving consumers a cutting-edge, driver-oriented space. The car’s integrated curved display and 3D air vents gave the cockpit notable depth and width, providing an ultra-modern finish.
Sportage also addresses car owners’ connectivity, functionality, and usability needs through its high-tech center console and touchscreen pad. Thanks to these gadgets, Kia continues to deliver highly efficient, user-friendly vehicular solutions. In addition to setting new design benchmarks, Sportage represents the future of Kia’s brand and products.
