Kakao T Overseas Vehicle Booking Service to Launch in Australia, Taiwan, and the Middle East
Kakao Mobility (CEO Ryu Gung-seon) will launch the “Kakao T Overseas Vehicle Booking” service in Australia, Taiwan, and the Middle East starting on November 30th. Following this, expansion to the United States is planned in December.
The “Overseas Vehicle Booking” service allows users to book various local transportation options through the Kakao T app. It is currently operational in Japan, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Once the expansion to the mentioned countries is complete, the service will be available in a total of 37 countries worldwide, including the United States, by the end of this year.
Starting November 30th, the target countries for “Kakao T Overseas Vehicle Booking” will include Australia, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Kuwait. Local mobility services such as Silver Top (Australia), Yoxi (Taiwan), and Careem (Middle East) will be integrated to support taxis, premium sedans, and large SUV bookings. This significantly expands the service coverage from Eurasia and Southeast Asia to Oceania and the Middle East.
Kakao T users can navigate to the travel tab within the Kakao T app while overseas, select the “Overseas Vehicle Booking” icon, input departure and destination information in Korean, choose the mode of transportation, and proceed with the booking. Service fees vary depending on the country-specific fare and service conditions.
Additionally, as announced during the NEMO 2023 technology conference held in September, Kakao Mobility will collaborate with Lyft, a partner of the global mobility intermediary platform Splyt, to launch services in the United States by the end of the year. This move reflects their ambition to strengthen global capabilities.
Ryu Gung-seon, CEO of Kakao Mobility, stated, “With the expansion of the ‘Kakao T Overseas Vehicle Booking’ service, we can now support seamless mobility for users in various overseas locations.” He added, “Beyond the overseas vehicle booking service, we aim to create and enhance diverse global expansion cases, leap beyond the domestic representative platform, and become a true global mobility service.”
Kakao Mobility, since introducing the “Kakao T Overseas Vehicle Booking” service in Japan in 2018, is not only expanding the service area to a total of 37 countries this year but also creating cases of direct overseas expansion by establishing vehicle booking infrastructure in locations such as Guam. Moreover, they continue to expand their scope as a global platform by initiating overseas app integration services, allowing foreign tourists visiting Korea to use Kakao T taxi services through their home country’s app.
