Yoo Tae-hee, a developer at Kakao Enterprise (CEO Lee Kyung-jin), was recognized for his contributions to the activation of the open-source ecosystem. He received the Minister of Science and ICT Commendation in the individual category at the ‘2023 National Open Source Software Industry Development Merit Awards’ ceremony on December 1st.
The ‘Merit Award for Contributions to the Development of the Open Source Software Industry’ is given to individuals and organizations who have contributed to the development of the industry through the development, distribution, and proliferation of open-source software (SW).
Yoo Tae-hee, the developer in charge of Kakao Enterprise’s corporate cloud platform, Kakao Cloud, has been selected as an awardee for his contributions. He not only leads well-known open-source projects domestically and internationally but also actively participates in activities such as lectures and mentoring to promote the activation of the open-source ecosystem and the cultivation of experts.
Since 2021, developer Yoo Tae-hee has been recognized for possessing reliable technical capabilities in the Linux open-source project. He is currently one of only two individuals in Korea serving as the ‘Linux Kernel Networking Stack Automatic Multicast Tunneling (AMT) Maintainer.’ Additionally, he actively participates as a mentor in the ‘Open Frontier’ program of the Open Source Software Integration Support Center (Open UP) operated by the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA). Through this involvement, he assists students and developers interested in open source, helping them strengthen their development skills and grow in the global open-source ecosystem.
Kakao Cloud developer Yoo Tae-hee expressed his gratitude for the award, stating, ‘I want to share this honor with my colleagues who have worked together for the development of the open-source ecosystem.’ He further remarked, ‘I will continue to do my best to contribute to the activation of the open-source ecosystem and the enhancement of development capabilities by sharing the values of ‘sharing’ and ‘collaboration.”
During the award ceremony, Yoo Tae-hee also participated in a panel talk at the ‘Open Source Software Festival 2023’ conference held on the same day. The panel discussion, titled ‘Growing with Linux Open Source Culture and as a Developer,’ focused on the role of Linux kernel developers in the cloud and AI industries.
On the other hand, Kakao Enterprise is the representative AI company of Pangyo Techno Valley, officially launched in December 2019 as a spin-off from Kakao’s Corporate Independent Company (CIC) AI Lab.
