Electronic and Telecommunications Research Institute is set to introduce their latest technologies at the all-digital Consumer Electronics Show 2021. At the tech exhibit, ETRI will be introducing their AI chip, digital holographic display, and sound field security sensor.

ETRI’s AI processor technology is a processor chip that equips the computing system with high-performance using a power consumption of only 15 watts. ETRI designed the AI chip to enhance the complex arithmetic processing of AI algorithms. They also furnished the processor with a computing capacity of 40 teraflops. The AI chip also exceeds the computational abilities of commercial GPU chips.

The digital holographic display system generates floating 3D images through a tabletop display and an ultra-high-resolution spatial light modulator. The technology would be able to produce a 360-degree viewing of the 5-inch holographic color image. For a viewer to see the images, the hologram system doesn’t require the use of separate optical devices such as glasses.

In August last year, ETRI won an award for their hologram technology at Display Week 2020 hosted by the Society for Information Display. “This technology is expected to be widely used not only in holograms, but also in various ultra-high-resolution display fields,” said hologram researcher Kim Jin-woong.

ETRI will also present the intelligent sound field security sensor at the tech event. The South Korean research institution programmed the sensor technology to precisely detect intrusion and fires. By using sound reflection and diffraction, the security sensor offers a highly accurate detection system that leaves no blind spots. The sensor is also easy to apply to other technologies such as IoT and AI. ETRI designed the security sensor in partnership with start-up research institute Secureworks Co.

CES 2021

“Innovation unveiled at CES 2021 plays a role in vitalizing the global economy,” said ETRI Director Kim Myung-joon. “We look forward to the innovations presented by ETRI to brighten the future by advancing business and improving the lives of people around the world.”

More than 2,000 companies from 130 countries will be participating in this year’s CES, which began on January 11. 330 South Korean exhibitors will join the event, and the various companies will showcase their latest products and services.
