LG CNS, the IT services arm of LG Group, has announced the launch of Enerdict, an AI-powered software solution designed for virtual power plant (VPP) operators. The new platform aims to optimize energy management and forecasting for VPPs, which aggregate small-scale renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
By leveraging deep learning and mathematical optimization, Enerdict enhances the accuracy of power generation forecasts, making energy systems more efficient and responsive.
The solution combining the words “energy” and “predict” will enable VPPs to manage distributed renewable energy sources better using advanced AI technology. LG CNS plans to expand its business into the growing global energy systems market by offering Enerdict to VPP operators, helping them integrate and optimize energy resources more effectively.
To provide grid power, virtual power plants (VPPs) aggregate small-scale energy sources, such as rooftop solar panels, energy storage systems (ESS), and electric vehicle batteries. Unlike traditional power plants, VPPs do not have central generating facilities; instead, they rely on information and communications technologies to balance energy supply and demand by managing these distributed resources.
As renewable energy sources like solar and wind power are weather-dependent and cannot generate electricity on demand, VPPs play a critical role in ensuring a steady power supply by storing excess energy in ESS or batteries.
The growing adoption of renewable energy sources and the shift towards decentralized energy generation have contributed to VPPs’ rising importance. According to market research, the global VPP market is expected to reach $16.9 billion by 2030.
To address the challenges of managing distributed energy resources, LG CNS’s Enerdict uses machine learning, deep learning, and mathematical optimization to forecast power generation levels accurately and respond efficiently to grid dispatch instructions. The AI-driven approach enhances the coordination of VPP operations, ensuring optimal power generation and compliance with energy demand.
LG CNS will offer Enerdict as a SaaS solution to encourage global adoption, allowing VPP operators worldwide to deploy and scale the technology easily. LG CNS plans to expand its reach into the international energy systems market, where it is already in talks with energy, telecommunications, and construction companies preparing for VPP projects.
By providing Enerdict as a SaaS, LG CNS aims to simplify the integration of AI-powered energy solutions, helping businesses optimize their VPP operations and contribute to the growing trend of decentralized energy management.
LG CNS is currently discussing introducing Enerdict and helping several firms in the energy, telecommunications, and construction sectors optimize their VPP operations.
